Give the Veluwezoom painters a home in the Concert Hall in Oosterbeek

853 signatures

Museum Veluwezoom, featuring paintings from the Oosterbeek School, must leave its current location in June 2026. The most logical and only option is the Concert Hall in Oosterbeek. A detailed plan and funding are available. However, the municipality of Renkum is blocking it. Sign the petition and save the museum.

Petition

We

residents of the municipality of Renkum and beyond, art lovers from the Netherlands and abroad,

establish that:

  • the paintings of the Oosterbeek School, among others, will no longer be on public display from June 2026 onwards unless the municipality makes the Concert Hall available for this purpose.
  • the Concert Hall was the place where artists gathered around 1870 when the first artists' colony in the Netherlands had been established here.
  • the Concert Hall is therefore the perfect location for the Museum Veluwezoom to safeguard the legacy of the first Dutch artists' colony. and contemporary artists will finally have a possibility for exhibitions.
  • a museum and exhibition place within the still beautiful natural surroundings of Oosterbeek is attractive for art and nature lovers.

and request

the municipality of Renkum to accommodate Museum Veluwezoom in the Concert Hall in Oosterbeek.

Slamming the door shut

Renkum seems to be closing the door on the dream location, the Concert Hall, for good. And that is particularly painful because the need has never been greater than it is now: the museum has to leave Doorwerth Castle in May 2026.

With the imminent departure from Doorwerth Castle looming, the volunteers and board members are left empty-handed. “Our plan has been completely swept off the table. We will be out on the street in June 2026,” says Van der Veen. The very first artists' colony in the Netherlands will then no longer have a museum. Not even a very small one. According to Van der Veen, this is not only a missed opportunity, but also a terrible shame. A spokesperson for the municipality of Renkum has announced that the intention is for the Concert Hall to offer space for cultural activities in addition to council meetings. “We don't yet know what that will look like or whether Veluwezoom will be given that space. We are looking into it. We are in close contact with Museum Veluwezoom and other cultural providers.” Suzanne Huibers
